He is waiting curbside with a small luggage bag on wheels. “This is for you" holding out a five-dollar bill. “I will always give five dollars if you have me.” Christopher sports a short black leather jacket -- underneath, purple sleeves cover bandages wrapped around his wrists. His voice is strained, a pitch higher than expected. He is excited. "Right now, I'm going to an interview at a photo studio."

Chris is nearing completion of his undergrad degree, taking the required classes along with an emphasis in portrait photography. "The best part has been the math courses. The logic of it all is good for my brain." He tells me about a brain injury sustained in an accident he prefers not to detail. Surgeries. "For four years, I couldn’t move my arms or legs."

"Nobody wanted me. Gay people only want you if you’re perfect." Ben showed up and has never left. "He works as a life coach, writes poetry and is a property manager. I’m going to write a LGBT romance novel with him after I finish the book on my recovery. Take my card if you want to know anything on self-publishing."
