The car rolls up to the Venetian. Nicole Denis, a tall woman in white linen and hair wrapped in regal kente’ gets in, engaged with a colleague on the phone.
:
“Yes, BRIDEZILLA and MARRIED TO THE MOVEMENT are already in pre-production. I’m just looking for a theme to tie together the entire season...”
:
“You believe everything they say on those shows,” Cam’el offers from the front.
:
“Ah, hang on... Excuse me Mr. Driver?”
:
“Do you believe what they say on those crazy… I watch that Bride mess every week.“
:
“Let me let you go girl, we’ll talk tomorrow... It’s television, scripted, Mr. Driver. Women. Empowerment. That’s what we’re selling.”
:
“Feels like an appetizer to me. What about the main course? The way I see it, men want to marry, but why should they? Women want a mate, but why should they?“
:
“Ah, what do you think, Mr. Driver?”
:
“I'm Cam'el. My dad told me, marriage is a fancy word for the bloody business of releasing someone you care about from bondage. Not tying them up. Releasing them. We miss that. Have you ever freed anyone?”
