Wine Water
:
Distracted by phones, sunsets, fast cars, and shiny lights, one of these jumps out and grabs the driver of the black Jeep, causing it to swerve violently then flip, the metal mass slamming hard into the freeway underpass. Marva, two cars back, was first to get to them. The scrawl on the cracked back windshield read, newlyweds.
:
She was unconscious. Flecks of red on a white dress began to pool beneath her head. He worked to free himself.
:
“Help her,” Marva said to Cam’el on the cell phone.
:
“What do you want me to do mom? Ambulances are coming.”
:
“I can tell, there's not much time,” she said.
:
Marva put the cell phone to the confused man’s ear.
:
“Do whatever my son says.”
:
“The water in your glove compartment. Pull it out.”
:
“What?”
:
“The water, make your wife drink it. It will slow the bleeding.“
:
The groom managed to release the seatbelt and her body slid down, flat unto the bloodied roof. He loosed the bottle cap and poured drops into her mouth as screeching sirens approached from the east down Desert Inn.
:
The wound slowly began to close, causing the bleeding to stop. The groom gasped. “How?" Marva stood up to walk away.
:
"Never, never mind. Thank you for stopping. Thank your son for me.”
